| 1135-7 - Parker - $3200
Circa 1916 wooden carousel horse from the Charles Walker Parker amusement
factory of Leavenworth, Kansas. The horse, is carved in an energetic jumping
pose, having an open mouth head and laid back ears carried on an upright
neck with roached mane and enclosed by a jeweled gorget. A simple English
style saddle terminating in a nicely carved fish cantle is set over a
bordered blanket while a peytral encircles the chest. The horse has glass
eyes, a carved wooden tail, an internal pole sleeve, metal belly plate
marked M 95, and 3 metal shoes. The horse presents in good condition,
stripped of paint down to the natural wood and attractively stained—accentuating
its character and revealing the construction details of the figure. The
jumper is enhanced with glass jewels on the left side, indicating that
it is a “mirror horse,” the jewels placed to reflect off the
mirrors attached to the center drum panels. 57 long x 35 high. 34 chest
to rump.
